When Binky, a 15-year-old beloved canine, went missing during his family’s house move, it left his owners heartbroken. Despite pausing everything to search for him, they hoped his microchip would lead to his return. However, with no success and unable to delay their move any longer, they had to leave with heavy hearts. Days turned into years, with the family fearful that they’d never reunite with Binky.
In a turn of fate, a kind-hearted individual discovered a dog in distress wandering the streets of Summerville, South Carolina. They reached out to Dorchester Paws, an animal shelter, for help.
“His fur was so tangled, especially around his eyes. You could barely tell if he even had eyes. His nails were so long they were curling, he smelled awful, and his teeth were in poor condition,” April Howard, the director of Dorchester Paws, told The Dodo.
At the shelter, staff immediately brought Binky to a veterinarian. There, his matted fur was shaved off, giving him much-needed relief. With medication to soothe his pain, Binky displayed a sweet and brave demeanor, winning over everyone he met.
After his transformation, a scan of his microchip revealed heartening news—his family had been found.
Binky’s family was stunned by the revelation. They could hardly believe that their cherished dog, known affectionately as “Mr. B,” had been located after such a long time.
“The family was in complete disbelief. They kept asking, ‘Is it really Mr. B?!’ Binky was already a senior dog when they adopted him, so they never expected to see him again,” Howard explained.
The fact that Binky had survived all this time as a stray, far away from his home in Georgia, seemed miraculous. Without delay, the shelter staff set out on a six-hour drive to reunite Binky with his family.
The emotional reunion was bittersweet. Although Binky was now blind and mostly deaf, he instantly recognized the scent of his family. His tail wagged with joy as he melted into their warm embrace, showered with love and affection.
Despite his physical challenges, Binky knew he was home. He nuzzled his family, savoring their tender touches that he had missed for so long. But sadly, not long after his return, Binky’s health started to fail.
In his final days, his family stayed by his side, enveloping him in love and comfort. They were with him as he passed away, grateful that he spent his last moments surrounded by those who loved him dearly.
The family will always cherish the precious time they had with Binky, forever treasuring the joy of their reunion and the special bond they shared.
