Every day, dog rescuers are faced with heart-wrenching scenes at places where abandoned animals are left to survive amidst debris and garbage. Among these creatures was Lola, a gentle giant who, despite her circumstances, greeted the world with a wagging tail and a warm smile.
Lola’s plight came to the attention of Jess, a seasoned rescuer, through a video shared by the organization called Pawpers in the Ruff. The footage struck Jess deeply. “This lovely girl ended up in a dump through no fault of her own. No food, no hope—just a loving, beautiful spirit tossed aside,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
Lola had spent nearly a week amidst the refuse, deprived of basic necessities. Yet when help finally arrived, she welcomed her rescuers with warmth and joy. Jess, in particular, was enchanted by Lola’s loving nature and immediately felt a connection. “From that moment I saw the video, I knew she was meant to be part of our family,” Jess expressed on Instagram.
Their connection was instant, and soon after, Jess took Lola to her new forever home. This marked the beginning of a happy chapter in Lola’s life, filled with adventures and love. She adjusted quickly, becoming Jess’s ideal companion, joining her on hikes, relishing long walks, and playing freely in the yard.
Lola’s sociable nature won the hearts of many. She was friendly to everyone, showcasing her joyful personality despite her history. Unfortunately, this happiness was challenged when Lola’s demeanor changed. She became less active and lost interest in food, prompting Jess to take her for a veterinary examination.
The diagnosis was heartbreaking. Lola suffered from significant hip issues and chronic pain due to prior trauma endured during her puppyhood. Jess shared on Instagram: “Lola’s right rear leg and pelvis are deformed, with mild dysplasia affecting both hips.” Awareness of Lola’s ongoing pain deeply affected Jess; her beloved dog had long suffered in silence.
Although medication helped manage Lola’s pain, surgery wasn’t an option. She experienced fluctuating days of wellness and discomfort, with her family supporting her through every moment. Lola remained resilient, despite the relentless challenges she faced.
In time, Lola’s condition worsened to a degree where her fight was unsustainable. Her passing left Jess and her family heartbroken. “It pains me that she’s not here sharing life’s simple pleasures, like enjoying chicken nuggets,” Jess lamented.
Though Lola’s life was cut short, Jess finds solace in knowing that her final days were spent surrounded by love and comfort. Despite the tragedy of her loss, being able to offer Lola a loving home after rescuing her from dire conditions was an invaluable gift.
