In an unexpected and nerve-wracking incident, Archie Bean, a tiny 12-week-old Pekingese puppy, found himself in a precarious situation that stunned his family and community in Douglas County, Colorado. Weighing just five pounds, Archie accidentally fell through an open vent in the family home and remained trapped for three anxious hours.
Monique, Archie’s owner, made every effort to reach her puppy but struggled to pinpoint his exact location within the house. Realizing she needed help, she picked up the phone and called in reinforcements from South Metro Fire Rescue.

Upon arrival, the dedicated teams from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Plumbline Services quickly set about the tricky rescue operation. Archie had slipped through a three-story drop right into the complex network of the home’s ductwork.
In a video shared by SMFR, Monique described how the incident unfolded. “I took the other dogs out, and he jumped off my son’s bed and right into the hole,” she recounted, explaining that her son attempted to reach him but was hindered by a cluster of nails and other obstructions.

Inside the walls, the faint sounds of Archie’s whimpers could be heard, causing concern and confusion as these cries seemed to echo from various points throughout the house. “Every time I hear him cry, it sounds like he’s everywhere. That makes locating him so difficult,” Monique shared.
Rescuers employed a small camera to navigate the ductwork in search of Archie, cutting several holes in the walls for better access. After hours of tense searching, the team finally caught a glimpse of Archie’s frightened eyes through the camera. He was located deep within the basement’s HVAC system.

The team quickly headed to the basement to extract Archie from the ductwork safely. A rescuer gently scooped him up, delivering him into the relieved arms of his tearful owner. Although shaken and confused, Archie was unharmed, emerging without a scratch.
“It’s an answered prayer,” Monique expressed with gratitude to SMFR. “He traveled from the third floor all the way to the basement without getting injured.”
The heartwarming reunion was marked by immense gratitude. Monique thanked the rescuers for their compassion and relentless efforts to bring Archie back to safety, despite the challenges.

In a statement on Facebook, SMFR highlighted the touching outcome, saying, “Archie’s return to his thankful family is a testament to the power of compassion and perseverance in challenging times.”
Now back home, Archie is safely nestled with his fellow furry companions. Despite his dramatic adventure, his life in Colorado promises to be filled with love and joy. Here’s hoping Archie, the adventurous Pekingese, keeps out of similar mischief in the future!
