The dog’s keen senses have uncovered several “booby-trap” mines, particularly alarming discoveries following the revelation of mass graves containing the bodies of victims in the previously Russian-occupied territory, as reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Remarkably, Patron commenced his minesweeping duties at the tender age of six months, showcasing an early aptitude for the task.
The Russian military’s tactic of planting booby traps on essential facilities, residential homes, and even amidst human remains while fleeing the conflict has drawn condemnation for violating international law.

With his acute sense of smell, Patron has cleared hundreds of Russian mines, earning him widespread acclaim and recognition.
Collaborating with the Ukrainian Emergency Services, he tirelessly navigates through the debris of damaged communities, contributing to ongoing clean-up efforts.
Patron’s expertise mirrors that of other mine-detecting dogs, leveraging their superior olfactory capabilities to discern explosive odors amidst various environmental scents.

This lineage of canine assistance traces back to the Second World War, with the animals’ heightened olfactory centers proving invaluable in humanitarian demining efforts worldwide.
Despite the long history of employing mine-detecting dogs, their widespread deployment has gained momentum only in recent years.
Currently, an estimated 750 dogs participate in humanitarian demining programs globally, underscoring these loyal companions’ pivotal role in ensuring the safety of communities affected by conflict.
