Meet Peanut: The Rescue Pup with Baby Yoda Ears Helping Shelter Dogs

Last Update:

When Kristen, a dedicated volunteer at the Nevada Humane Society (NHS), lost her cherished dog, Petey, she found solace in Peanut, a unique rescue pup with adorable, oversized ears.

Peanut’s journey began when his previous owners surrendered him due to their inability to care for him properly, leaving him with a painful mouth infection.

The shelter placed Peanut in the puppy nursery to ease his distress, but it was clear he needed a permanent home.

Kristen, approached by the shelter, initially intended to foster Peanut, but she quickly fell in love with him and decided to adopt him.

Peanut, around nine years old, often sparks curiosity with his distinctive appearance, prompting many to inquire about his breed.

Kristen seized this opportunity to raise funds for the shelter with a creative fundraiser titled “Peanut: One Tough Mutt to Crack.”

Through donations, supporters could guess Peanut’s breed, though DNA testing revealed he’s a mix of 12 different breeds, with Chihuahua and Dachshund being the most prominent.

Despite his diminutive size, Peanut’s photos often make him appear larger than life, prompting his mom to juxtapose his pictures with everyday objects for scale.

Endearing and affable, Peanut thrives in his mother’s company, accompanying her to various events supporting animal welfare.

Now settled in his forever home alongside other rescued animals, Peanut actively participates in therapy work and fundraisers, having raised over $8,000 for homeless pets.

Every week, Peanut advocates for shelter animals through #wideearwednesday on his Instagram page, encouraging others to support shelters by adopting, fostering, donating, volunteering, or simply sharing the stories of animals in need.
