Earlier this week in a remote part of Turkey, a veterinarian named Soner Büyümez was working on a farm when he heard a distressing noise from afar. It was the unmistakable cry for help from a desperate creature.
Upon hearing the sound, Büyümez hurried to the location and discovered that a landslide had taken place. There he found a dog partially buried, with only her head visible above ground.
She seemed to be in considerable pain, but her concerns extended beyond her own plight.

“The situation was heartbreaking,” Büyümez shared with The Dodo. Realizing the urgency, he immediately took action by grabbing a shovel and starting to dig.
As he worked to free the dog, he picked up faint yet distinct sounds emanating from the ground. “I heard the cries of puppies,” Büyümez recounted. Encouraged by this discovery, he continued his efforts to save them.

After freeing the mother, he persisted with his endeavor and successfully uncovered seven puppies that had been trapped alive when the tunnel they were in collapsed.
Thanks to Büyümez’s quick response, the entire dog family was eventually brought to safety.

The veterinarian believes that the mother dog was likely a stray, left to navigate this perilous situation alone. However, with his intervention, her days of solitude are over.
“Their overall condition is excellent,” Büyümez commented. “The mother and her puppies are now safe, and I will care for them as if they were my own.”
