Every day, countless dogs wander the streets in search of food and shelter. One such dog, Jhonny, spends his days hoping for some kindness from passersby.
With no known owner to care for him, he relies on the generosity of strangers for comfort and meals.For a while, the staff at La Espiga bakery became Jhonny’s friends, regularly feeding him treats from their shop.
However, the bakery has since closed its doors, leaving Jhonny to wait outside for familiar faces that no longer come out to greet him with food.
His story sheds light on the harsh realities faced by many street dogs, who are at risk of diseases and starvation.
Yet, stories like Jhonny’s also highlight the compassion of those willing to help these animals, such as individuals who are now encouraging others to support or even adopt him.
Unaware of the bakery’s closure, Jhonny faithfully returns to his usual spot, hoping for a meal. This heart-wrenching tale was shared by Amandi Rodriguez Maya on a Facebook group dedicated to lost pets in the Tampico Madero and Altamira area.
She described the tearful scene of Jhonny waiting at the closed bakery, once a reliable source of nutrition and care, now empty and silent.
The La Espiga branch in downtown Tampico shut down in mid-December 2022. Since then, Jhonny, who often lounged by the bakery hoping to be fed, is now left without his usual benefactors.
According to local reports, Jhonny was also seen resting near the Cuidado con el Perro store in the marketplace, but his primary haunt was always the bakery, where the staff always found a way to feed him, regardless of the weather.
With the bakery gone, Jhonny remains hopeful, though it’s evident he feels the loss deeply.
The public is moved by Jhonny’s plight, with many inspired to help. Those who see him are encouraged to offer him some food — he particularly enjoys small packs of croquettes and chick meat but is advised against bones, which upset his stomach.
By sharing Jhonny’s story, the community hopes to secure him the care he needs and deserves.
