It’s hard enough for shelter dogs to find homes, but for senior dogs, the wait is often even longer. Many people seek out puppies, leaving older dogs overlooked and forgotten.
That was almost Mabel’s fate. The senior beagle was posted on Facebook, given away for free, with an urgent deadline—she had to leave by the weekend.

Her picture was heartbreaking. Her fur was dirty, her nails overgrown, and her spirit looked defeated. But when Taylor and her boyfriend saw her post, they knew they couldn’t let her be discarded like an old possession.
Without hesitation, the couple jumped in their car and drove three hours to bring Mabel home. When they arrived, they saw just how much she had endured.
Her life had been hard, but despite everything, she seemed to understand that her rescue had come just in time.
At first, Mabel spent her days simply resting, recovering from years of neglect. But slowly, she began to change. With the love and patience of her new family—and the help of Taylor’s other rescue dog, Cooper—she started to come out of her shell.
The once-shy beagle learned to trust again, her tail wagging more each day.
“She started out as a really closed, shy dog, and now she wants to explore everything,” Taylor shared.
Mabel’s transformation was complete when she celebrated her first “Gotcha Day” with her loving new family. No longer unwanted, no longer overlooked—she was finally home.
