Woman Visits Animal Shelter and Adopts Two Senior Cat Sisters for Their Golden Years

Alicia’s visit to the Exploits Valley SPCA was meant to be a casual look at shelter cats, but it turned into something much more special when she left with two senior feline sisters.

Mya and Hawkins, a pair of 15-year-old orange and white cats, had recently arrived at the shelter in search of a better life.

The SPCA described the duo as “the sweetest senior sisters” who ended up in the shelter through no fault of their own. Both cats were healthy and eager to receive affection from anyone who came their way.

The shelter staff noted that the sisters were always quick to rush to the front of their cage, excited for some love.

“At their age, they deserve to be pampered and cherished,” the shelter shared. “It’s always heartbreaking when senior animals find themselves in shelters.”

The staff hoped to find Mya and Hawkins a forever home, so they posted about the sisters online in the hopes of attracting potential adopters.

Alicia, who had previously adopted cats from the SPCA, heard about the cats from a friend and decided to visit them. She wasn’t planning on adopting, but once she saw the sisters, she couldn’t resist.

“I didn’t technically plan on getting them. Once I heard their story and saw them in person, I fell in love,” Alicia told Love Meow.

The moment Mya and Hawkins saw Alicia, they approached her with affection, rubbing against her as if they were already trying to win her heart.

“They needed a good home,” Alicia said. “I loved them, and they needed a chance to leave the shelter.”

That day, Alicia brought Mya and Hawkins home, giving them the fresh start they had been waiting for.

The SPCA expressed its gratitude, saying, “Anyone in the rescue world knows how hard it is to find a home for one senior, let alone two. We’re forever thankful for the people who offer them the retirement homes they deserve.”

Settling into their new home quickly, the sisters were eager to explore every corner. Alicia noted, “I think they were just happy to get out of the cages.” The pair met Midnight, a resident cat, and the three of them got along well.

Mya and Hawkins are inseparable, always cuddling and rubbing against each other. Mya is particularly affectionate, often seeking out laps for snuggling, while Hawkins enjoys relaxing by the window.

The two sisters love spending time on the cat tree by the window, where they soak up the sunlight and watch the world outside.

Mya enjoys flopping on her belly and rolling around, while Hawkins takes pleasure in scratching posts.

Despite their age, Mya and Hawkins remain active, playful, and full of energy, enjoying every moment of their new life with Alicia and their new sister, Midnight.
