From Grumpy to Glowing: How a Shelter Kitten Found Love with a Giant Dog

Published on

Betty, a Siamese kitten with a prickly attitude, was discovered as a stray at Jelly’s Place shelter in San Pablo, California.

She would hiss and retreat into corners whenever approached, making finding a home challenging.

Kendal Benken, a seasoned volunteer at the shelter, recalled the first encounter with Betty, describing her as a “wild thing.” Benken, experienced in taming even the most feral kittens, sensed Betty’s fear and aggression.

Understanding Betty’s need for comfort and security, Benken took her home. Initially grumpy and resistant, Betty found herself in a big dog crate, surrounded by Benken’s other rescue animals. Truvy, a yellow lab known for her affinity for fostering kittens, was among them.

Truvy’s gentle nature intrigued Betty, and they formed a bond over time. Once standoffish and hostile, Betty gradually warmed up to her new family, finding solace in Truvy’s companionship.

The turning point came when Betty climbed onto Truvy, seeking comfort and warmth. This display of affection melted hearts and marked Betty’s transformation from a fearful stray to a loving companion.

With Betty’s newfound sociability, it wasn’t long before she caught the eye of a potential adopter, Roz. Captivated by Betty’s story and her bond with Truvy, Roz welcomed her into her home with open arms.

Today, Betty lives happily with Roz and another rescue cat named Amber. Their bond is a testament to the power of love and companionship, showcasing the remarkable journey of a once-grumpy shelter kitten finding her place in a loving home.
