A puppy, found in dire straits on the streets of Texas, happens upon a stranger’s yard, desperate for help. Neglect had left her severely malnourished and infested with ticks, making her barely recognizable. The concerned resident contacted Dallas Dog Rescue, Rehab, and Reform for help.
Due to severe anemia, the puppy could hardly stand. Rescuers rushed her to the hospital, where she received crucial medical care, including a blood transfusion. “This beautiful stray went into a stranger’s yard and asked for assistance!” announced Dallas Dog Rescue on Facebook, highlighting how fortunate the day turned out for the dog.
Named Amora, the dog was swiftly transferred to a partner veterinarian for stabilization before being taken to Dallas. Although her prognosis remained uncertain at the time, support and hope surrounded her recovery.
The following morning brought encouraging news. “Mi Amor survived the night,” reported a source close to the situation. Amora was gradually introduced to food, and steps were taken to address the persistent tick infestation. Close monitoring of her blood levels ensured she received the necessary care, with arrangements ready if a transfer to another facility became necessary.
After a few days of intensive care, Amora moved into foster care with a volunteer from Dallas Dog Rescue. Initially frightened of everything, Amora took time to adjust. Her foster mother expressed patience during the adjustment period, sharing how it took over 20 minutes to coax Amora from one car to another. Upon arriving home, her foster dogs were eager to meet the new arrival.
Sitting with her on the floor, Amora’s foster mom provided comfort as the pup trembled at her new surroundings. However, within an hour, Amora was joining in with the other dogs. Her biggest supporter was Ava, a female German Shepherd, who became her best friend, even teaching Amora essential skills like going potty outside.
Though Amora still retreats to familiar spots when scared, her confidence has grown. She now travels around the home more freely, and efforts continue to acclimate her to car rides and baths. Having another trusted dog around, or being with her foster mom, bolsters her confidence, demonstrating the strong bonds she’s formed.
Eventually, a year later, Amora found her forever home. She shares a close bond with her brother and accompanies her father to work every day, a testament to her incredible journey from a neglected street dog to a beloved family member.
