Overcoming abandonment can be challenging, but sometimes it’s necessary for a brighter future—like in the story of Trekker!
Trekker, a dog left alone in San Diego’s Cleveland National Forest for over two weeks, had to fend for herself after being heartlessly abandoned by her owner. Surrounded by the threat of mountain lions and coyotes, she was frightened and starving, yet destiny had different plans for her rescue.
One day, a passerby noticed Trekker from afar, initially mistaking her for a wild creature. As she realized it was a dog, the woman knew she had to help, even though Trekker was positioned on a steep slope, making it impossible to approach her directly.

Undeterred, the woman set up a feeding station nearby to coax Trekker out. Her tactic worked, and Trekker came to eat what may have been her first meal in days. The woman then reached out to Suzette Hall, the founder and rescuer of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California.
Hall immediately sprang into action, navigating through a single-lane road deep within the forest, despite the lack of cellphone reception. Her sole focus was rescuing Trekker and alleviating her fear and hunger. “I couldn’t stop thinking how scared and hungry she was,” Hall expressed, emphasizing how remote Trekker’s location was.

Upon reaching the site, Hall set up a humane trap, aiming to capture Trekker quickly and safely. After two days of waiting, Trekker finally ventured into the trap, greeting Hall with a wagging tail, relieved to be safe at last.
At the shelter, a microchip scan revealed Trekker had been adopted shortly before she was found abandoned in the woods. However, Hall already had plans for this resilient dog.
After a thorough vet check, Trekker was placed with a loving foster mom, Sharon Kelly. In this nurturing environment, Trekker thrived and quickly bonded with her foster family, eagerly awaiting her forever home.
In Hall’s words, “She is a miracle, a survivor, and she is rescued.”

Soon after, Trekker found a family to call her own. “She has found perfect love and a perfect family. She will be cherished always,” Hall announced on Facebook, expressing her joy for Trekker’s newfound happiness.
Trekker took to her new family and fellow canine companion swiftly, beaming with joy. After enduring so much adversity, she finally found her safe haven.
Here’s to a long and joyful life, sweet Trekker!
