True heroes often emerge from ordinary people who step up when someone is in distress. Such was the case for Mo, a Pit Bull found stranded on a narrow concrete beam beneath a bridge, waiting patiently for someone to notice her plight and offer help.

Mo’s rescue story began with a cycling group known as Smash Bros Plus One, who routinely ride together every Monday around Fort Worth, Texas.

On this particular day, as they were heading toward Dallas, they encountered a woman near a bridge urgently waving them down. Her message was clear: a dog needed immediate assistance.

Curious and concerned, the cyclists halted their ride and followed the woman to the bridge. The scene that greeted them was unexpected and alarming.

Mo, the Pit Bull, was perched precariously on a support beam, about fifteen to twenty feet above ground, unable to escape. The cyclists were convinced she hadn’t gotten there by herself.

“There’s no way she could have gotten there herself and there’s no way she could have gotten out herself. The look on her face was despair,” noted Abby Robinson, the lone woman in the cycling group.

Mo lay almost motionless, occasionally lifting her head, her eyes filled with fear and exhaustion. It was as if she silently pleaded for rescue. Understanding their role as her lifeline, the cyclists swiftly devised a plan.

They stopped passing cars, hoping for assistance, and one driver, a handyman, had the perfect solution—a ladder. Cyclist Chris Williamson carefully descended the ladder to reach Mo.

With patience and a soothing voice, he lay beside her to assure her of his good intentions. Slowly, he earned her trust.

Once Mo was calm, Williamson gently lifted her and passed her to the waiting arms of the cyclists above.

The successful rescue brought a collective sigh of relief. Mo, upon being removed from her precarious position, displayed only gratitude with her gentle eyes.

She was clearly exhausted, hungry, and thirsty, leaving everyone to wonder how long she had endured such an ordeal. Robinson noted that Mo appeared to have recently given birth, adding another layer of concern.

Animal Control soon arrived and checked for a microchip, but none was found. Faced with overcrowded local shelters, the cyclists reached out to Saving Hope Rescue, which agreed to take Mo in.

In honor of professional cyclist Moriah Wilson, who had passed away in May 2022, they named the rescued dog Moriah Wilson.

Mo found refuge in a foster home shortly afterward, where her rescuers later visited to see her happily settled and well-cared-for.

Thanks to the compassion and determination of a group of cyclists who couldn’t ignore her plight, Mo now has a promising future. Their courageous act reminds us of the true essence of heroism.
