James Allen, a resident of Tennessee, usually takes the same route through Dickson County each day. To him, every turn is familiar, but one morning he found himself quickly hitting the brakes for an unexpected sight.
By the side of the road was a thin dog, keeping a watchful eye over a cardboard box marked “eggs.” Her protective stance suggested she was on a serious mission.
James felt there was something unusual about the scene. The dog’s sad eyes revealed that she hadn’t just lost her way; she was left there.
Peering inside the box, James discovered five tiny puppies huddled together. “I drive this route almost daily, and that box wasn’t there yesterday.
The lid was shut, as shown in the photos, so the puppies couldn’t escape. The box was clean—with no mess inside,” James explained to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.
James realized the dog was the puppies’ mother. She was guarding her young ones, keeping a hopeful gaze down the road, perhaps waiting for the people who had abandoned them to come back.
“Mom was looking up the road, as if to see whether her people were returning,” a representative from the rescue told The Dodo.
Touched by their situation, James took pictures and posted them online, hoping someone would help protect the vulnerable family.
Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, based in Nashville, TN, spotted the post and immediately promised to assist.
By the end of the day, the mother dog and her puppies were safely in the care of the rescue organization.
“These babies and mom are now with us, but it’s disheartening to witness this level of neglect and ignorance,” the rescue shared on their Facebook page.
Once in the shelter, the small family received food, warmth, and necessary medical care. The team began planning to find each puppy a loving home.
Unfortunately, such situations are frequent in Dickson County. The rescue team, though accustomed to them, still feels heartbroken each time.
“Unfortunately, it’s not unusual here. Despite the repetition, it still angers me and breaks my heart,” the representative added.
With the family now safe, Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue continues to search for those responsible for abandoning them. “Someone in Dickson County knows who the owner is. Message us!” the rescue urged their followers.
